Interceptor Technology
Interceptor Propeller fitted to VEEM's Viking 64-2400HP Test Vessel VEEM has taken its ‘Splash and Forget’™ technology to the next level allowing every boat to be launched with the correct propeller every time. Imagine being able to design and build a new model of boat and have it hit the right engine revs and load without the need to change or modify the propellers. You can now retain all the benefits of using VEEM’s class leading CNC propeller designs regardless of final boat configuration. The Interceptor Propeller™ technology also means that you can use all of the engine power that you paid for regardless of boat weight or operating environment. Now you can fish in cold and hot climates using the same propeller by simply changing the Interceptor strips; a bit like summer and winter tyres. Adding a tower to a boat is no longer a trigger to fit new or modified propellers. The VEEM Interceptor Propeller™ system eliminates the many thousands of dollars wasted each time a boat needs to be lifted to have its propellers changed or modified. The cost saving of this new system doesn’t end there either. Fuel consumption and the ‘Carbon Footprint’ of every boat can be minimized by ensuring the engines are operating exactly where they were designed to operate over the entire life of the boat. |

VEEM’s revolutionary Interceptor Propeller™ allows changes to the pitch of the propeller without removal from the boat and this can even be done underwater. VEEM holds several international patents for the system which uses different height Interceptor strips to adjust the effective pitch of the propeller. Comprehensive testing has demonstrated excellent efficiency at high speed due to the camber affect of the Interceptor. A specially designed entry point is provided at one end of the groove to facilitate the installation of the Interceptor strip. Each blade is specially designed to allow a captive groove to be machined into the trailing edge of the pressure face to receive the Interceptor strip. The strip is fed in from a special opening near the root of the blade allowing centrifugal force to hold the strip in place. The Strips are colour coded to make identification easy. Should the pitch of the propeller need to bechanged, the old strip is simply pushed out and a new strip of a different height is pushed in. The strips come in different colours to easily identify the size of the Inerceptor. This also makes it easy for a diver to identify what size strips are installed prior to changing the strips. The strips are made from a specially formulated high density polymer making them long lasting and cheap to replace when the boat is lifted for scheduled maintenance. Propellers: VEEMSkewplan
The VEEMSkewplan® propeller is a further evolution to the highly successful VEEMKaplan propeller. The Skewplan is designed for use in applications similar to the Kaplan such as on trawlers, tugs and long liners, whilst providing superior smoothness. Reducing noise and vibration is of particular concern for vessels which operate for extended periods of time, where crew fatigue is not only dangerous, but reduces productivity. Not simply a skewed Kaplan, the Skewplan incorporates many additional features not found on competitors' propellers. Blade foil sections have been further optimised to suit modern trawling and bollard pull applications, which means that the Skewplan is well suited to new nozzle designs. Water inflow angle is optimised to each area of the propeller using a variable pitch distribution, as compared to the constant pitch of the Kaplan design, which has the additional effect of controlling cavitation near the blade tips. Manufactured using the latest robotic and CNC processes, the VEEMSkewplan is of the highest quality and accuracy attainable, and is further improved with dynamic balancing at VEEM's NATA. approved balancing facility. Overall the Skewplan offers excellent bollard pull, high efficiency and smooth operation, making it the ideal choice for any vessel equipped with a nozzle. |
Propellers: VEEM Maxifoil
The Maxifoil® system is a radical new design that provides further efficiency gains over VEEMKaplan and VEEMSkewplan designs. The Maxifoil design utilises a multi-element propeller where the key to the efficiency gain is due to the overlapping blade arrangement. Secondary blades operate in pre-accellerated flow aft of the main blade and when combined with reduced pitch main blades (which are inherently more efficient themselves), a propulsion system results that commonly yields thrust improvements of between 10 and 15% over existing Kaplan propellers. The secondary blades also improve reversibility due to the re-direction of flow over the trailing edge of the main blades.
The Maxifoil system is NOT simply an add-on, but an integral arrangement to the main blade. The improved efficiency of the Maxifoil system delivers more thrust for the same engine power resulting in reduced fuel consumption, increased bollard pull and/or an improved cruise speed. Manufactured using the latest robotic and CNC processes, the VEEM Maxifoil is of the highest quality and accuracy attainable, and is further improved with dynamic balancing at VEEM's NATA. approved balancing facility. Overall, the VEEM Maxifoil system provides the ultimate in propeller thrust and efficiency for nozzle applications. |
Propellers: VEEMKaplan

The Kaplan propeller is designed to operate in a nozzle and has excellent thrust characteristics in low speed applications. The Kaplan propeller has a combination of aerofoil sections and double ogival sections towards the tip. The blade contour has a wide tip that is designed to run with a close fit to the inside of the nozzle. Each Kaplan propeller is customized for rake, blade area and boss detail to suit the specific requirements of each vessel. Why compromise when VEEM can supply you with a propeller that provides optimum performance. Manufactured using the latest robotic and CNC processes, the VEEMKaplan is of the highest quality and accuracy attainable, and is further improved with dynamic balancing at VEEM's NATA. approved balancing facility.
